Upstairs balcony railings and front steps were replaced about twenty years ago after fire damage (with inferior machine-turned pine) and were starting to show signs of severe rot. Balcony balusters, railings and posts were recreated based on previous design (and adhering to applicable historic building codes), and hand-turned by a local craftsman using new heartwood redwood, stainless fasteners, Abatron epoxy, oil based primer and caulking. Stair stringers, treads, risers, balusters, posts and rails were then painted to match the house.
