Extensive kitchen remodel in a 1923 Oak Park bungalow. Wall removed between “nook” and kitchen, and entire kitchen gutted and redesigned to suit period of house, while incorporating modern conveniences, such as a Bosch dishwasher and Blumotion soft-close custom drawers. Behind the pantry doors, shallow pullouts organize and make cookware easily accessible. Cabinetry was custom designed and crafted with Tung-oiled Douglas fir interiors and traditional-style adjustable shelving system; glass fronts were repurposed from salvaged windows, with the highly-desirable distinctive wavy glass of the period. Swinging doors purchased from local antique fair and installed with a few modifications to incorporate signature design theme of arches and ogees.
Green and black hand-crafted tile with crackle finish positioned as backsplash throughout over carefully selected African Sapele sustainable mahogany wide-plank, book matched countertops; stained glass under-cabinet lighting provides a warm glow. Vintage American Standard sink, 1935 GE monitor-top refrigerator and 1930’s Wedgewood stove sourced, restored and installed. Furnished with modern orange swirl Marmoleum flooring, polished nickel pendant lighting with cloth cords from Rejuvenation, and hand-painted schoolhouse globes from Schoolhouse Electric.
